About Mutonia
Courage. Music. Joining in.
What we make
Mutonia is a children’s song project from Austria. We write songs about the things that actually occupy small children — animals, tractors, the seasons — and about how you find courage when something is difficult.
Every song is published free of charge on our YouTube channel. This site adds what YouTube cannot: an English explanation of every song, what a child learns from it, and guides for learning German with them.
What we stand for
Told calmly, not cut frantically
A lot of children’s video buys attention with speed. It grips, but little is understood — and children are wound up afterwards. Our songs keep a pace a three-year-old can follow.
Made to join in with, not to stare at
A child who claps, hops and sings along is taking part. The songs are built for that: simple choruses you can sing back after hearing them once.
No scare images, nobody laughed at
There are conflicts in the songs, but they get resolved. No character is humiliated, and nobody is turned into the joke.
Nothing to buy
No toy at the centre, no surprise eggs, no hidden advertising. Children under eight do not recognise advertising as advertising, so we do not make any.
